the end of a short love affair

a poem with a head like a duck
and camel’s feet
belly of the whale
snake eyes
arrow in the bellybutton
spider fingers
rabbit skin
frosted like an icecream freezer
wine-stained
teeth falling out
it sits in this machine
and looks at me
as somebody slams the lid
of the trash disposer outside
I like the poem
as it looks at me
I don’t always like the poem
as it looks at me
from this machine.
well, goodbye fellow,
go on up the street
hand around the taco stand
try an adult bookstore
sieze your liberty
the world is yours
we are finished.
