did you ever think about that?

there is always war and trouble on
my shores:
if we can stop looking at film
we can stop dying.

we are very suspicious and a
nuisance to ourselves:
we can stop dying if we
stop looking at film.

if we can stop looking at film
we can stop dying:
I laugh about that and spit out a
whole plateful of meatballs and
spaghetti while listening to
Peter and The Wolf.

and the ships sail west and the sky
smells like the cheapest of
perfumes:
if you can stop looking at film
you can stop dying–

stop becoming snake-eyes against stained
wood
stop China stop Russia stop the U.S.
stop Blake and God and the bats
get Ginsberg to be quiet

stop the dripping faucets
ice hockey
and the waving of the wind.

if we can stop looking at film
we can stop dying.

I want to bring all of Bukowski's poems online and make then freely available. This means hundreds of hours of work to retype over 1,000 of his poems from the original manuscripts. Your donations will help support this work.
