butterflies

I believe in working
but I also believe in the
prize
and it is a wonderous thing
when a woman who has read your works
(or parts of them, anyhow)
offers her life up to you
I mean in
sex
almost as total
strangers

such an offer of communion
must be taken as
holy

the hands
the fingers
the hair
the smell
the light

one would care to be strong enough
to turn them away

these butterflies

I believe in working
but I also believe in the prize

I have no shame

we deserve each
other

these butterflies
within my tiny
empire.
