all that like that

about all I remember about
New York City
in the summer
are the fire escapes
and how the people go
out on the fire escapes
when the sun
is on the other side
of the building
and some stretch out
and sleep there
while others sit.

and on many
of the window sills
sit pots of geraniums
or planters
of geraniums
and here are the
half-dressed people
on the fire escapes
and here is
the geranium red
almost everywhere.

this is more
something to see
than to tell

like a great
and surprising painting
not listed
in
the art
catalogues.
